Star Player FAQ

Welcome to Star Player! Whether you play Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, or Basketball, the app functions in the same easy to use manner.

General

Seasons
Seasons group a series of games. Each season has its own Team and Star Player. You can track several players by setting up a season for each player. Seasons are also used to for tournaments.

To add a season, click the + (plus) button on the top right of the screen. Enter the season name, team name, and edit the Star Player.

To edit a season, click the blue circle with the right arrow on the row for the season to edit.

Each season displays the cumulative season results including win-loss-tie team record, games played (GP), goals-for (GF) and goals-against (GA).

To delete a season, either swipe left to right on the season in the list, or click the Edit button on the top left of the display. Deleted season cannot be undone.

Games
Games are sorted by their schedule date. Beneath each game displays the final score, or a notation that the game is in process. “In process” games are made Final by clicking the Final button at the bottom of the game screen.

Add a new game by clicking the + (plus) button on the top right of the Games screen. Fill out the opposing team and optionally the scheduled date.

To close the keyboard on any screen where the keyboard is displayed, click the Done button on the keyboard.

Edit the game by clicking the blue circle with an arrow on the row for the game you want to edit.

Each finalized game shows a W for win or L for loss and the final score.

Note: Only games that are Final are used when computing season and player statistics. To finalize a game, you must press the Final button on the bottom right of the game screen. If you need to edit a game that has been Finalize, click the Edit button on the bottom right of the game screen.

Star Player Card
The Star Player Card is accessed from the Season list.

To view the Star Player card for the season, click the blue star on the row for the Season.

You can edit the players physical stats as well as add a picture from your iPhone photo library. We find that it is best to use iPhoto or an image editing program to crop the picture to an appropriate pose for the player card. You can even use an image editing program to add the team logo to the picture!

Lacrosse

Lacrosse Star Player has tally counters for the following statistics:

Game Clock
The game clock is started and stopped by tapping the Stop Watch. For youth games where there is a running clock, this helps keep you informed as to how much time has passed for the quarter or half. You can reset the game timer at any point by tapping the X, so it is useful even if you don’t have the exact game time at the end of a quarter or half. Just reset it at the beginning of the period and you’ll have a good relative notion of the time left.

Shift Clock
The Shift clock is useful to track total field time for your player. To use the shift clock, first, start the game clock by taping the stop watch. This will enable the shift timer to be used. Next, when your player enters the field, click the green Playing button. When your player exits the field, click the yellow Pause button. You will do this throughout the game to capture the total field time.

The game clock must be running for the shift clock to function.

Player Goal
When your player scores a goal, only click the “Goal” button for your player. Tapping this button will automatically increment the “Goal Us” counter and Shots. If there is a score, but it is not from your player, click the appropriate Goal Us or Goal Them button to record the score.

Edit Mistake
To decrement a tally, first tap the minus (-) button on the bottom of the screen, then tap the tally. The button will return to a plus (+), so if you have to back out several mistakes, you must press the minus button each time.

Email game stats
Tap the Share button to have Star Player automatically compose an email with the player and game summary. The iPhone email program will be launched and you just select the recipient from your address book and click Send. When you return to Star Player the game will be restored.

Finalize the Game
Important: When the game is done, click the Final button. This marks the game as complete and the various tallies are then included for game, season, and player stats. Furthermore, when a game is Final, it is locked and cannot be inadvertently changed unless you press the Edit button on the bottom right of the screen.

Basketball

Basketball Star Player has tally counters for the following statistics:

Shift Clock
The Shift clock is useful to track total court time for your player. To use the shift clock, when your player enters the court, click the green Playing button. When your player exits the court, click the yellow Pause button. You will do this throughout the game to capture the total court time.

Player Goal
When your player scores a goal, only click the button for your player. Tapping this button will automatically increment the “Goal Us” counter and goal type attempts. If there is a score, but it is not from your player, click the appropriate Goal Us or Goal Them button to record the score.

Goals
The Goal Us and Goal Them buttons increment a single point at a time. Therefore, you need to tap the button as appropriate for each goal. Player goals automatically increment the Goal Us by the appropriate point count.

Hockey Star Player has tally counters for the following statistics:

On Ice
The green or red stop sign is a toggle button that enables the application to compute the +/- rating. When your player enters the ice, click the On Ice button. When the whistle blows and the clock starts, click the Playing button. This starts the ice timer for this shift and accumulates total ice time for the game. When the whistle blows and play stops, click the Pause button. When the player leaves the ice, click the Off Ice button.

Shift Clock

Next, when your player enters the ice, click the green Playing button. When your player exits the ice, click the yellow Pause button. You will do this throughout the game to capture the total ice time.

The player must be On Ice for the the shift clock to function.

Player Goal
When your player scores a goal, only click the “Goal” button for your player. Tapping this button will automatically increment the “Goal Us” counter, Shots, and Rating. If there is a score, but it is not from your player, click the appropriate Goal Us or Goal Them button to record the score.

If your player is on the ice when any goal is scored, be sure that the On Ice button is pressed so that the +/- rating is accumulated accurately.

Tips

Sharing game and player stats
Star Player allows you to email a snapshot of the game whether in progress or completed. Just open the Game and click the Share button on the bottom left of the screen. This will create a simple email and launch the Apple email app. Select the To: recipient and click Send. You will need to relaunch Star Player after sending the email.

Editing a mistake on the game screen
If you need to back out a tally, just click the minus (-) sign at the bottom of center of the screen. This puts the tally counters in subtract mode and the next tap will decrement the appropriate counter. You must press the minus button for each tally you need to decrement since it automatically reverts to plus (+). If you have a goal called back and your player was on the ice, be sure you tap the On Ice button before decrementing the goal. Otherwise, the +/- rating will not be accurate.

How to Delete a Season or Game:
Swipe left to right or right to left on the season or game and choose the delete button.

How to close the Keyboard
On iPhone and iPod Touch, you close the open keyboard by clicking the Done or Return button on the bottom right of the displayed keyboard.

How to close the Date Picker
In Star Player, you close the date picker by clicking the blue circle with an arrow that you used to open the date picker. Or, click any other field.
